Discussion Resource

Elizabeth Poett is a seventh generation cattle rancher, born and raised on Rancho San Julian, her family's historic 14,000-acre cattle ranch on California's Central Coast near Santa Barbara.

On this episode of 50 Fires, Elizabeth reflects on the importance of embracing uncertainty as a rancher, a career where every day is different, and unpredictability is a part of the routine. She also shares her own journey of starting a business and diversifying opportunities at the ranch, which includes hosting the cooking and lifestyle show Ranch to Table, one of the founding shows of the Magnolia Network, authoring her popular blog and cookbook The Ranch Table, and hosting a number of events  throughout the year on the ranch, including cooking workshops, educational events, and intimate farm-to-table meals.

Conversation Starter

In this episode, Carl opened up one of his questions with Elizabeth by saying "Can I ask a clumsy question?" Most of us never learned how to talk about money, so when you find the space and time to do it with a good friend, partner, spouse, or family member, give yourself permission to be clumsy, because a meaningful conversation will be found on the other side.
